ADULT: Wingspan up to 20mm. A smashing little moth that is easily recognised by its habitat and its yellow-ochreous to dark fuscous forewings that are delicately etched with a variety of white patches and streaks. The hindwings are similar in colour but the base is white and the median band is white except for a darker discal spot. LARVAE: The brownish larvae of this species are entirely aquatic, feeding on a variety of water plants. BEHAVIOUR: Usually seen in small numbers when disturbed from vegetation. HABITAT: Found in and around vegetation near ponds, lakes and canals. FLIGHT PERIOD: June to August. STATUS: A widespread species throughout the UK. |
